About this session
The war in Ukraine is in its third year. The country’s fortunes have fluctuated, and the capability of its armed forces has been hobbled by the political deadlock on Capitol Hill, which has alarmed allies of the US, and suggests a Trump administration would be very much to Putin’s liking.
Although Congress eventually signed a $60 billion package of military aid for Israel, Taiwan and Ukraine, will it prove too little, too late? The US and Europe will have to commit further funding, at the very least, to bolster Ukraine’s armed forces in their struggle against a brutal invader.
The war appears to favour Russia’s deeper reserves. Is Russia winning now? Do the US and NATO have the political will and resources to halt and reverse Moscow’s progress?
Our panel considered what is happening in Ukraine, the challenges besetting both sides in the conflict, and how the battlefield may yet influence the Year of Elections, where technology could be a significant player, with consequences for our future security and prosperity.
