About this session

In July 2022, Dr Hughes was appointed as the first-ever Patient Safety Commissioner for England. The role was created after a national independent review into avoidable harm caused by medical devices or medication. She acts as the patient champion and independent point of contact for them, giving them a voice and making sure their concerns are heard in relation to medicines and medical devices.

Previously a medical director at NHS England and then the NHS national guardian (a role created to improve reporting culture across the NHS), Henrietta continues her clinical role one day a week as a GP in central London.

Watch now, as we explored how different sectors can learn from each other about achieving genuine culture and behavioural change.

“I’m always fascinated to understand how other sectors approach culture change,” said Dr Hughes “And in my experience, leaders in health are always interested to adopt innovations from outside the sector.”
Martin Smith MBE (info), Chairman & Founder, The SASIG, in conversation with Dr Henrietta Hughes OBE (info), Patient Safety Commissioner, Office of the Patient Safety Commissioner
