About this session
Misinformation is by no means a modern-day phenomenon, but one that is greatly enhanced by 24-hour-a-day internet, social media, and the speed of modern global communications. Any incorrect or misleading information presented as fact either intentionally or unintentionally is misinformation; disinformation is a subset of misinformation, in that it is deliberately deceptive.
Disinformation has a profound and unending effect on world events and stability, as we can see every day in the news.
In this session, we examined the history and politics of mis- and disinformation, the role of social media, and the effects of disinformation on public trust in government and on the rule of law.
We discuss the true impact of disinformation and how we can counter it.
