About this session

The Metropolitan Police (MPS) Cyber Choices programme is designed to reduce cybercrime, including illegal hacking of computers and networks, denial of service and the writing, distribution or deployment of malware. These are all offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

The programme has four main aims:

  • Explain the difference between legal and illegal cyber activity
  • Encourage individuals to make informed choices in their use of technology
  • Deter and/or divert individuals from cyber crime
  • Promote legal and ethical cyber opportunities

Cyber Choices is co-ordinated by the National Crime Agency – the MPS, along with the City of London Police, are responsible for telling people in London about the programme.

Jonathan Kidd from the Cyber Choices Team explains the work the team does, how they reach individuals who may be vulnerable to cybercrime, and how the team can help you.

You can access the Met Police Cyber Choices referral form here. You can find contact details for your local ROCU and Cyber Choices team here.
