About this session

Protecting elections globally is essential to ensure the integrity of democratic processes. Overall, securing an election cycle requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the various aspects of the electoral process, from planning, voter registration and campaigning, to the counting of ballots and results publication. This includes efforts to protect against cyber threats such as hacking, phishing, and the spread of disinformation or misinformation.

Kayle from the Global Cyber Alliance joined us to take an in-depth look at what cybersecurity players are doing to protect the integrity of elections around the world, from fighting the spread of false information which might prevent voters from forming opinions based on accurate information, to securing voter data and election results from manipulation attempts.

Kayle presented ten recommendations (developed by the GCA with support from CrowdStrike and IFES) for improving the cybersecurity of elections, and how governments, industry, political parties, media, civil society, non-profit organisations, and citizens themselves can implement them to contribute to collectively improving the integrity of our elections. We also discussed how the recommendations will improve democratic resilience in the face of cyber threats, and how they will be implemented going forward.
